So.. I'm going to nitpick some terminology. Then I'll answer questions.
1) Player owned station is a rather outdated term and basically means the same as outpost in the vernacular. You can't have one.
2) POS, which is I assume what you mean when you say player owned station, is actually player owned starbase. These are still viable and can be used -- but you can't dock at one. Never could. They're also a bit of a mess to work with compared to the new Upwell structures. Having said that, a small POS is a great first investment. More on that later.
3) The other option you have is a citadel and/or engineering complex. You can in fact dock in those and while they are expensive to put up they have no operating costs out of box.
Option 1) is honestly out. Just trust me on that one. You can't put a new one up anymore and it's an alliance-level asset. Taking one is a pita. Just scratch it.
Options 2 and 3 are within your reach, but they're corporation-level assets. If you want "your own" then you'll also need your own corporation.
Deploying either requires anchoring... 1? For a small POS or higher for a larger POS. I believe anchoring 1 is all Upwell structures need regardless of size.
A POS does require hourly fuel no matter what you put on it, but the modules don't require fuel.
EC/citadels are the opposite, where the structure doesn't require fuel but the service modules do. And they require quite a bit of it. More than a small POS, certainly.
A small POS will get you the equivalent of T1 rigged refining at a high sec citadel/EC for all of 100mil isk or so. It's a damn steal. I highly recommend it while it still exists. Compression is separate though. You do need to find an open moon but unless you're near Amarr or Jita that shouldn't be an issue. A small POS can also support a small research operation if you fit it to do so. Mediums can handle more, larges even more.
The smallest dockable structure is currently a Raitaru, so that's 650mil. If you just want to dock, then that's it. Actually doing anything with it would require more investment, of course, with rigs easily quadrupling the value of the structure alone. Service modules would actually make it functional in one way or another. Other fittings are there for defense. |
